Timeline for Seniors

SENIOR TIMELINE

  • Private & Independent California Colleges and Universities www.aiccu.edu

August-September
  • Meet your college counselor
  • Turn in your free-lunch application to qualify for fee waivers
  • Register at www.fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
  • Register for September and/or October ACT
  • Register for October and/or November SAT
  • Register for Subject Tests (if required or recommended)
  • Meet your guidance counselor to check credits, GPA, and college eligibility
  • Retake classes where a “D” or “F” was earned (adult school, community college for certain classes)
  • Attend college visits when representatives are on campus (Check College Office Board)
  • Begin asking teachers and counselors for letters of recommendation for private colleges (give at least 2 weeks notice for letters)
  • Begin personal statement for the UCs and any other required college essays


October
  • Work on the personal statement for the UCs and any other required college essays
  • Register at www.fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
  • Check private colleges and university application deadlines (dates will VARY by school)
  • Register for the December ACT (check college websites for last testing dates)
  • Register for the November and/or December SAT
  • Register for Subject Tests (if required or recommended)
  • Get letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors for private colleges (give at least 2 weeks notice for letters)


November
  • UC & CSU APPLICATIONS ARE DUE THIS MONTH
  • Register for the December SAT
    • *December is the last testing date accepted by the UCs and CSUs (and in some cases it may be November for certain CSUs); other school deadlines will vary
  • Register for the December ACT

  • Complete UC & CSU applications and submit by November 30th – SUBMIT EARLY!
  • Don’t forget to send SAT and/or ACT score reports to colleges and universities (send through College Board or ACT websites)
  • Have a College Office representative check the UC & CSU applications for accuracy
  • Print out and save copies of all submitted applications
  • Complete EOP application (if eligible) for Cal States (www.csumentor.com) (deadlines vary by campus)
    • You will need letters of recommendation (allow at least 2 weeks for letters)
  • Get letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors for private colleges (give at least 2 weeks notice for letters)
  • Register for Spring Community College classes


December
  • Inform your parents/guardians that you will need a copy of their 2012 Income Tax Returns to complete your financial aid application (FAFSA)
  • Complete College Applications for Private Universities (deadlines will vary)
  • Register for the January SAT (if accepted by schools, check websites)
  • Not accepted by UCs or CSUs and other schools (check individual school websites for deadlines)
  • Register for Spring Community College classes
  • Register at www.fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities

January
  • Ensure that Mid-Year Reports are completed by counselors for private schools
  • Complete the CSS Profile for private universities (check websites for deadlines)
  • Complete Cal Grant Verification Form from the College Office (DUE MARCH 2nd)
  • Apply for Scholarships (see College Office scholarship drawer and websites for more information)
  • Register at www.fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
  • Register for Spring Community College classes


February
  • Apply for scholarships
  • Make necessary changes on the FAFSA by completing the SAR
  • Complete the CSS Profile for private universities (check websites for deadlines)
  • If you plan to attend Community College in the Fall, apply NOW and take the placement tests. See college reps or college counselor for more information


March
  • March 2 - FASFA APPLICATION & CAL GRANT DUE (NO EXCEPTIONS!)
  • Apply for scholarships
  • Submit all requested financial information to universities and colleges

April
  • Submit “Intent to Register” to selected college by deadlines required (no later than May1st)
  • Submit housing form for selected university
  • Review all financial aid award letters
  • Meet with an outreach counselor if you plan to attend a Community College
  • Register for the ELM/EPT at a local CSU campus
  • Register for the Entry Level Writing Requirement for UCs
  • Register for the English and Math placement tests if you plan to attend Community College
May
  • Submit “Intent to Register” to selected college by deadlines required (May 1st)
  • Register for the summer session at a local Community College
  • If you plan to attend community college in Fall 2013, apply NOW (you should have already done so) and take the placement tests ASAP. See college reps or college counselor for more information
  • Sign up for Summer Bridge Programs at CSUs and community colleges, if available
  • Submit housing form for selected university
  • Review all financial aid award letters
  • Graduation – Congrats Grads!


June/July
  • Submit final transcripts to college you will be attending!
